A Little Something is a side dish for mid-June fixture
Since going chasing in February, home-bred A Little Something has found her metier, and will likely return to Stratford for the two day fixture at the end of June to close out a hat-trick.
The seven year old mare had drawn a blank in 15 previous attempts between the flags and over hurdles, latterly for Emma Lavelle, before the penny finally dropped over the bigger obstacles at Stratford last month.
On Tuesday, she followed up again under Ben Jones with a 12l beating of Gore Point at Fontwell to set up a hat-trick attempt.
Emma Lavelle is not a trainer best known for her summer jumps squad, but the few runners she is sending out are fit and ready, for sure. 4 winners from 19 runners gives a healthy 21% strike rate, doubled for chase runners, where A Little Something has produced two of the three winners.
The mare was bred across the county border by Zara Tindall, who knows a thing or two about horses herself. Olympic Eventing medal winner and a keen advocate of the sport with husband Mike, she is a regular at Cheltenham, if not always gracing the smaller venues. This has been her fist Jumps success since launching this mare into training 3 seasons ago.
The handicapper may choose to reassess A Little Something on th back of a 12l success, but in truth, the quality of the opposition differed little between her Stratford and Fontwell successes. She can capitalize on a lenient mark.
